Mind Manipulation
Cyber Attack and Racism
The film’s adaptation of the 2020 novel by Rumaan Alam has sparked discussions about its portrayal of a cyber attack and race baiting. The film’s depiction of a widespread cyber attack causing a nationwide power shutdown has raised concerns about the possibility of such an event happening in real life, suggesting that it may be a form of predictive programming, with many researchers pointing out that mass media is being used to prepare the public for future events.
Another criticism of the film is that it focuses on cautioning against white individuals, with some accusing it of racism and race baiting, stoking racial tensions in the United States. Viewers have taken issue with a line in the film that says
“trust should not be doled out easily to anyone, especially white people.”
Throughout the film, there are various symbols and themes that add to the overall atmosphere of a classic social engineering programming exercise. These criticisms have led to debates about the film’s thematic elements and the intentions of its creators.

Television Programming
Predictive Programming is a concept that suggests the government and media are using fictional movies, books, or TV shows as a mass mind control technique to prepare the public for future events or changes, and also to galvanise accepted narratives. The concept was first described and proposed by researcher Alan Watt, who defined Predictive Programming as
“a subtle form of psychological conditioning provided by the state or other higher-ups”.
The idea is that by exposing the public to fictional scenarios, they become familiarised with the changes and accept them as natural progressions, which can help lessen public resistance and commotion. Some purposes of Predictive Programming include:
- Softening the blow of a traumatic event, such as 9/11 or mass shootings.
- Preparing the public for future events, like a deadly pandemic.
- Influencing public opinion and manipulating people’s beliefs.
A good example of Predictive Programming is the 2011 movie ‘Contagion‘. In this film, a mysterious virus outbreaks and spreads rapidly, causing chaos and panic among the population. The movie portrays the government’s efforts to contain the virus and develop a cure, while also exploring the potential consequences of such an event on society. Some similarities between the movie and real-life events include:
- The portrayal of a sudden and unexpected virus outbreak, which could be seen as a subtle form of psychological conditioning to prepare the public for the possibility of such events.
- The movie’s depiction of the government’s response to the outbreak, including the implementation of quarantines, social distancing measures, and the development of a vaccine, mirrors the actions taken by governments, the World Health Organisation and pharmaceutical companies during the so-called “COVID-19 pandemic”.
- The film’s exploration of the potential impact of such events on society, including the economy, healthcare system, and interpersonal relationships, is similar to the concerns raised during the “COVID-19 pandemic”.
