Bug
Paranoid Delusion
Bug – 2006 | Lionsgate
An unhinged war veteran holes up with a lonely woman in a spooky Oklahoma motel room. The line between reality and delusion is blurred as they discover a bug infestation.
Bug is a 2006 psychological horror film directed by William Friedkin and written by Tracy Letts, based on Letts’ 1996 play of the same name. The film stars Ashley Judd, Michael Shannon, Lynn Collins, BrÃan F. O’Byrne, and Harry Connick Jr.
The film follows Agnes, a lonely woman living in a run-down Oklahoma motel, who meets Peter, a paranoid war veteran. As they become romantically involved, Peter convinces Agnes that they are being terrorised by a bug infestation, leading them into a delusional spiral of paranoia and destruction.
Critics praised the film’s intensity, directing, and acting, particularly the performances of Judd and Shannon. However, the film’s ending was polarising, with some finding it disappointing. Overall, Bug was seen as a tense psychological thriller that blurred the line between reality and delusion.
