Hitler’s War | David Irving
Legendary Historian David Irving talks about how history is manipulated, and how WWII is one of the most lied about events of contemporary history.
David Irving‘s book “Hitler’s War,” initially released in 1977, offers a detailed perspective on World War II from the standpoint of Nazi Germany’s leader, Adolf Hitler. The volume forms part of a three-part series, covering the period from September 1939 to 1945. Irving’s meticulous research, drawing primarily from German documents, intelligence reports, diaries, and letters, has earned recognition among readers and fellow historians alike. However, Irving’s credibility as a historian has faced significant scrutiny due to his controversial claims, notably that Hitler did not know about the Holocaust, and his subsequent legal battles involving accusations of “Holocaust denial”.
Despite the controversies surrounding Irving’s methods and conclusions, many historians, such as John Keegan and Hugh Trevor-Roper, acknowledged the quality of Irving’s research and writing, praising the book as an important contribution to understanding the war in its entirety. Nevertheless, critics argue that Irving’s interpretations often favour the German side and challenge the reliability of his historical methodology.
