Is he telling the truth, or is he telling a lie? The Conspiracy Guy takes on a couple of cloud-gazers in the park.
Stratospheric aerosol injection (SAI) is a method of geoengineering. It involves the introduction of reflective particles, primarily composed of sulphur dioxide (SO2) and other sulphate compounds, into the stratosphere to create a cooling effect via worldwide dimming. These particles can be very rich in aluminum, barium, and strontium. The presence of these heavy metals in the atmosphere can have detrimental health effects, such as respiratory issues, cardiovascular problems, and other systemic impacts. Exposure to these metals can result in the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in lung cells, potentially causing injury and leading to the formation of scar tissue. Additionally, the inhalation of these aerosols can lead to chronic health effects, and their presence in the atmosphere may also alter UV radiation exposure. Therefore, the potential health impacts of SAI, including the presence of heavy metals, are a significant concern and require careful consideration.
The detrimental health effects associated with SAI are primarily related to the inhalation of these aerosols. Some of the potential health effects include:
- Respiratory issues: Particles with a size of 10-100 nm can reach the area of the bronchioles and alveoli, potentially causing injury and leading to the formation of scar tissue.
- Cardiovascular problems: Exposure to iron and other transition metals can result in the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) on lung cells, which may cause injury and lead to the formation of scar tissue.
- Gastrointestinal, hematologic, musculoskeletal, and neurological effects: The health effects of a potential exposure to these aerosols are not limited to the respiratory system and can affect various other systems in the body.
The health effects of SAI are primarily chronic in nature, as population exposures to SRM materials will be continuous and prolonged over months to years. The use of PPE to reduce personal exposures to deposited SRM materials is not feasible on a large scale, and atmospheric circulation will lead to widespread population exposures. Additionally, SAI may have other health-related impacts, such as altering the optical path of UV-B transmission and inducing changes in enhancing or reducing UV-B transmission depending on the relative changes in particulates. These changes in UV radiation exposure can have known human health consequences, particularly related to increased rates of skin cancer and other UV-related health issues.
