Rudolph Steiner discusses Freemasonry
Freemasonry is the continuation of very ancient secret societies and brotherhoods.
According to Rudolf Steiner‘s lectures on the topic, Freemasonry is the continuation of very ancient secret societies and brotherhoods that originated at the beginning of the fourth post-Atlantean epoch, the same epoch in which Christianity later began.
Steiner explains that until the late 17th century, Freemasonry strictly prohibited female members, as there was a specific reason for this at the time. He suggests that when the reason for excluding women from Freemasonry no longer exists, the work of Freemasonry on the physical plane will be taken over by the work of Theosophy, where men and women will participate on an equal basis.Â
Steiner argues that Freemasonry is in a particular respect opposed to the female world, as it is a continuation of ancient secret societies that possessed a male-oriented wisdom, in contrast to the “true female wisdom” which has been allowed to vanish. He sees Theosophy as a way to restore an “asexual” wisdom that can harmonise the male and female principles.Â
Steiner also discusses how Freemasonry and its legends, such as the Temple Legend of Hiram Abiff, are a recapitulation of earlier spiritual knowledge and wisdom that existed in more ancient times, before the separation into two sexes. He views this as part of the broader evolution of humanity.Â
Steiner’s lectures provide an esoteric perspective on the origins, purpose, and evolution of Freemasonry, and its relationship to the development of human consciousness and spirituality.Â
