Nineteen Eighty-Four, also known as , is a British dystopian science fiction film written and directed by Michael Radford, based upon ’s 1949 novel of the same name.

The was filmed during April, May, and June . The closing credits declare that “This film was photographed in and around London during the period April-June , the exact time and setting imagined by the author ().”

An author and journalist, Orwell was one of the most prominent and influential figures in twentieth-century literature. His unique political allegory Animal Farm was published in 1945, and it was this novel, together with the dystopia of Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949), which brought him world-wide fame.
