The Abyss

Screams from the Bottomless Pit – 20 Aug 2023 | The Truth is Stranger Than Fiction

The bottomless pit of Revelation 9 refers to a place where certain demons are confined. It is also called the Abyss, which is a realm of confinement for demons.

The bottomless pit is opened by a star that had fallen from heaven, and the smoke that comes out of it is so heavy and black that it darkens the sun and earth’s atmosphere.

The inhabitants of the bottomless pit are released for a very short time during the last three and a half years of the tribulation to torment the wicked. The bottomless pit may be associated with a place called Tartarus, which is translated as “hell” and is used only once in Scripture, in 2 Peter 2:4. It refers to the place where “angels who sinned” are reserved in chains of darkness for judgment.
