Astronauts Gone Wild: An Investigation Into the Authenticity of the Moon Landings is a 2004 documentary film produced and directed by Bart Sibrel, a Nashville, Tennessee-based filmmaker who charges that the six Apollo Moon landings in the 1960s and 1970s were elaborate hoaxes.
Sibrel made this film as a follow-up to his 2001 video A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Moon, which accuses NASA of falsifying the Apollo 11 mission photography. The title of the film is a wordplay on the Girls Gone Wild video series.
The documentary features Sibrel confronting nine Apollo astronauts, including Buzz Aldrin, Alan Bean, Eugene Cernan, Edgar Mitchell, Michael Collins, Alfred Worden, Bill Anders, John Young and Neil Armstrong. He asks them to swear on a Bible that they traveled to the Moon and back.
Sibrel’s most famous encounter was with Buzz Aldrin in 2002, where Aldrin punched Sibrel after being called “a coward, and a liar, and a thief” for refusing to swear on the Bible. Mitchell also threatened to murder the filmmakers after being confronted.
The documentary includes interviews with astronauts discussing the Apollo missions, followed by Sibrel’s request for them to swear an oath “under penalty of eternal damnation, perjury and treason” that they went to the Moon. Cernan and Mitchell agreed to swear the oath, while Bean was willing to swear but not under penalty of treason.
