Not All Salt is The Same
Salt & Water – 26 June 2022 | Barbara O’Neill
They lie to you about everything, even salt.
How much water do you drink? Water is the second most vital element needed for life, which is why you can only survive a couple of weeks without it. The third most important element is sodium.
However, not all salt is the same, there are differences in types of salt, mineral content, and health effects. Salt is not a one-size-fits-all ingredient, as there are significant differences in types of salt, mineral content, and health effects. Various salts like refined table salt, sea salt, kosher salt, pink Himalayan salt, and Celtic sea salt differ in color, texture, taste, and nutritional value. For instance, Celtic salt and pink Himalayan salt contain trace minerals like calcium and magnesium, making them healthier options with lower sodium content compared to refined table salt. Sea salt, including Himalayan sea salt, is rich in trace minerals, with some types containing up to 84 different minerals, making it a beneficial source of micronutrients. Despite these differences, the sodium content in all types of salt remains relatively similar.
Vital Elements for Life
The four most vital elements for life are Oxygen, Carbon, Hydrogen, and Nitrogen. These elements are essential for the structure and function of living organisms. Oxygen is crucial for respiration, Carbon is the backbone of organic molecules, Hydrogen is a component of water and organic compounds, and Nitrogen is essential for proteins and nucleic acids. Sodium and Potassium are important electrolytes in the body but are not among the four most vital elements for life.
In the human body, Oxygen is essential for respiration and is found in key organic compounds. Water, the primary solvent in the body, regulates temperature and osmotic pressure. Sodium and Potassium are important electrolytes. Sodium is used for nerve signalling and helps regulate water levels, while Potassium is crucial for nerve impulses, heartbeat regulation, and overall body function.
